Porto Santo Stefano, a small town that is now an important and prestigious holiday destination and would really stand to benefit from such a service… the tunnels, referred to simply as “holes” in the local jargon... the panoramic guard houses and a terminus station that was really beautiful before it was destroyed by the bombing of 1944 that put a melancholy end to a railway that could not have been built at a more dramatically unfortunate time.
