Seveso Baruccana

La stazione in una cartolina degli anni Cinquanta

Baruccana is a hamlet in Seveso (province of Monza and Brianza), located in the south-east of the municipal area, on the border with Cesano Maderno and Seregno. Until the 19th century its inhabitants numbered just a few hundred. In the 20th century, however, the town expanded, to become the most populated district in Seveso in the 21st century. The town’s development was also boosted by the opening of the railway station in 2012, located on the Saronno-Seregno line which opened in 1887 and reopened in the 21st century.

The stop opened in 1887 at the same time as the Saronno-Seregno section which completed the line from Novara to Seregno. In 1958, with the end of passenger services on the Saronno-Seregno section, the stop was closed down. Following redevelopment work on the Saronno-Seregno carried out between 2010 and 2012, the facility was not reopened but was replaced by the new stop of Seveso-Baruccana, located approximately four hundred metres to the west. The old passenger building was demolished in October 2015.
