Saronno - Como

A convention agreed in 1888 granted the concession to operate the Saronno-Fino-Como steam tramway, originally stipulated between the Province and the Belgian Société générale des Chemins de Fer Économiques, which would form the basis for the future railway route.

Ferrovie Nord Milano would proceed with reconstruction of the remaining part of the route on its own track, with the aim of integrating it with its own railway. The work was scheduled to be completed within two years. Well before this deadline, from 1st June 1898, regulations for railway operation could be applied to the reconstructed Saronno-Como line, replacing those for the tramway which had been in force until then.

In some sections, the new route deviated significantly, and at a different height, from the pre-existing tramway, as is still evident at the FNM station of Cadorago (Como), where the old tramway bridge and a section of the track is still visible.
