Galliate

Galliate is a town in the province of Novara in Piedmont. The town is located on the edge of the Ticino valley and is part of the Ticino Valley Natural Park. In the second half of the 1800s, the first textile manufacturers emerged, mostly involved in processing cotton. These companies were the main driver of the town’s development throughout the 1900s, transforming it from a rural hamlet into an industrial hub.
Between 1884 and 1934, a facility serving the Novara-Vigevano-Ottobiano tramway stood in the town centre.

In 1532 it became a fiefdom of the Caravaggio branch of the Sforza, undergoing numerous changes throughout the 17th century. During the 1600s, Marquise Maria Aldobrandini Sforza commissioned the frescoes which are still visible in the castle today. Today it is mostly municipal property, and houses the Sala Museo Achille Varzi and the Angelo Bozzola Museum of Contemporary Art. The building regularly hosts exhibitions and shows.
