Gaggione viaduct
The viaduct at Gaggione stands over the valley that takes its name from the river, the Gaggione, that flows through it between Malnate and Varese. Its imposing shape, consisting of a masonry structure 100 metres in length and seven arches each with a span of 12 metres, makes it a landmark structure of the entire company network, along with the nearby Malnate bridge.
It is actually older than the Malnate bridge as it was opened at the same time as the line to Varese in 1885. A unique feature of this bridge is its double row of arches, designed to counteract the longitudinal flexion of the pillars.
