Cormano Cusano

The passing of time, the need to identify functional new solutions at stops which over time had inevitably taken on an urban dimension, an increase in population which was increasingly taking its toll on infrastructure dating back to the late 19th century, and therefore less and less suitable for modern traffic... These are the reasons for unifying the two stations in a new structure located exactly halfway between the previous ones, resulting in the elimination of the level crossings which were no longer necessary due to the construction of the new underpass.
New station facility equipped with ACC-M system, located at the Via Sauro-Marconi road axis at the midpoint between the previous facilities of Cormano Brusuglio and Cusano Milanino.

Nuovo impianto di stazione dotato sistema ACC-M, situato in corrispondenza dell’asse stradale di Via Sauro-Marconi in posizione baricentrica rispetto ai precedenti impianti di Cormano Brusuglio e Cusano Milanino.

The aim of the work in question was to combine the two stops of Cormano Brusuglio and Cusano Milanino on the FERROVIENORD Milan-Asso line, no longer suitable due to the length of the platforms and the presence of two level crossings at the station, into one single station midway between the two existing facilities.
The two stations were only 672 metres apart: this was an unusual distance compared to the FERROVIENORD network average (2-3 km) and was actually shorter than many of the sections on the Milan Metro network, which caused even direct trains to slow down and increased delays in the event of operational disruption.
The project entailed the construction of the new unified station, which opened in 2015, with two main line tracks and a manoeuvring track, essential for improving the service offered, an interchange hub on the Cusano Milanino side, and a system of covered concourses and buildings for passengers services.
