Hollow brass cylinder with a pointed top and 3 semicircular holes in the bottom, the lower end of which was attached to a pneumatic pipe. The spring inside was activated by compressed air.
The whistle was used as an alarm signal connected with the safety system.

The whistle was connected automatically upon activation of the safety system, which sounded the whistle and stopped the train within seconds.

This type of whistle was an uninterrupted alarm signal, in that, when the automatic safety system (referred to as “dead man’s control”) was triggered because the train driver failed to push a button or pedal as a result of sudden illness or distraction.
